Secure, confidential online video therapy (Telehealth) for Florida residents

Enhanced Accessibility. Profound Results.

Whether you’re an individual seeking help, a couple looking to strengthen your bond, or a family striving for harmony, our online therapy sessions bring the expertise of our clinicians directly to you. All you need is a comfortable space and a secure internet connection.

Reaching out for help is a courageous act. However, not everyone has the time or capabilities to visit a therapist in person. This is where online therapy comes in.

Not making yourself a priority could be detrimental to your emotional, psychological and physical health and research has shown that not managing our stress can negatively impact immune functioning as well.

More than ever, we need to be making our emotional health a priority.

There is hope and you have the resources within you to cope and thrive. That’s where we come in. Let us hold your (virtual) hand.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is virtual therapy?

Virtual therapy, also known as online therapy or telehealth, is a mode of delivering mental health services over the internet. This can involve communicating with a therapist through various means such as video conferencing, phone calls, emails, or instant messaging.

2. Is virtual therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes, numerous studies have shown that virtual therapy can be just as effective as traditional in-person therapy for many mental health conditions. However, the effectiveness can vary depending on the individual’s comfort with technology, the nature of their concerns, and the specific therapeutic approach used.

3. Is my privacy ensured during virtual therapy sessions?

Absolutely. At South Miami Psychology Practice, we utilize secure, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platforms to ensure your information and sessions are kept confidential. Just like traditional therapy, everything you share during your virtual session is private. To ensure privacy on your end, we recommend that you find a secure, private location ahead of time. You can also utilize headphones and white noise machines to increase the privacy. If you have any concerns about your privacy on either side, please communicate this with our support staff or your therapist.

4. What equipment do I need for virtual therapy?

You will need a computer, tablet, or smartphone with a good internet connection. You will also need a webcam and a microphone, which are usually built into most modern devices. It is also beneficial to have a private, quiet space for the duration of your sessions.

5. How does online therapy work?

Once you have scheduled your initial appointment, you will be provided with a link to create a profile with a unique username and password to our secure HIPAA-compliant Telehealth Platform (TherapyNotes). At the time of your appointment, you will simply log on and enter the virtual waiting room. When it is your appointment time, the session will proceed just as it would as if you were in person.

6.. How long does a virtual therapy session last?

Typically, a virtual therapy session lasts the same amount of time as an in-person session, generally about 50 minutes to an hour. However, the length can vary depending on the specific needs and treatment plan of the client.

7. Can I receive virtual therapy if I live outside Florida?

Our license allows us to provide therapy services to individuals residing within the state of Florida. However, telehealth regulations can vary by state, so it’s essential to discuss your location with your therapist.

8. How do I pay for virtual therapy sessions?

Payment for your virtual sessions will be arranged prior to your session with our frontdesk staff. We can provide you a sefcure link for payment or if you can provide us with your credit card information. Please contact the office if you would like to pay with cash or checks and it can be arranged ahead of time.

9. Can I use insurance to pay for virtual therapy?

Many insurance companies do cover virtual therapy, but it can vary depending on your specific plan and provider. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to understand your coverage for telehealth services.

10. What if I experience technical difficulties during a session?

Our support staff and your therapist will be available to help you troubleshoot any technical issues you may encounter. However, we also recommend having a back-up plan, such as a phone session, in case of internet connectivity problems.

11. How can I make the most of my virtual therapy sessions?

To maximize your virtual therapy sessions, ensure you are in a quiet, private space where you feel comfortable discussing personal topics. Make sure your device is charged and that your internet connection is stable. Be open and honest with your therapist about your thoughts and feelings to reap the most benefits from your therapy. It might also be helpful to collect some items ahead of time that add to your comfort such as a weighted blanket, your favorite pillow, stuffed animals, candles, essential oils, slippers, and your favorite non-alcoholic beverage.
