Addiction Prevention and Treatment

Addiction Prevention and Treatment

Put your recovery first… so that everything else doesn’t have to come last!

Maybe you’re wondering if you need help…

Do you ever find yourself wondering whether your life would be better without drugs and alcohol?

Do family members keep hinting that they think you have a problem, but you are not so sure?

Have you progressed from “experimenting” with drugs to actually being a drug-user?

You’ve probably questioned yourself from time to time, but the thought of admitting you might actually need help is quite scary.

Find yourself in a war… with yourself?

Maybe you know all too well the constant thought battles – the agonizing about your decision whether or not to drink.

“Can I really handle it?”

“What if I only just have one drink?”

“Is this what other people go through?”

You just want peace in your mind, but your desire for substances is constantly making you on edge. Something inside has shifted, and now you’re sensing a loss of control.

Regardless of whether you’re “truly” battling an addiction, if you are going down this path of questioning your use with alcohol and/or drugs, it is time to get help.

Worried that your teen might be using drugs or alcohol?

  • Changes in personal appearance and hygiene
  • Smell of alcohol or smoke on breath or on clothes
  • Frequently breaking rules, violating curfew, or legal problems
  • Mood changes and new medical problems
  • Unusually tired, silent, or uncommunicative
  • Cash flow problems, disappearance of money, or valuables
  • Car accidents, tickets, or unexplained dents in the car
  • Locked doors, secretive phone calls, or isolating behaviors
  • Truancy, loss of interest in schoolwork, academic decline
  • Loss of interest in extracurricular activities, hobbies, or sports
  • Family or friendship conflicts
  • Unusual number of accidents or injuries
  • Sudden or dramatic weight loss or gain
  • Disappearance of prescription pills, alcohol, or cigarettes
  • Employment problems such as missing work or lost jobs

But this is about addiction… not JUST drugs and alcohol.

Anything that is done excessively and/or compulsively can be considered an addiction. It might start off as a healthy activity – maybe a favorite pastime or a temporary escape from reality – but when someone becomes compulsive about engaging in this activity despite significant negative impacts, an addiction might be the culprit.

When someone becomes addicted to a behavior that is normally thought of as healthy (such as exercising), it can be hard to identify it as an addiction. It usually isn’t thought of as an addiction unless there’s some turning point where they realize that, for example, their excessive working out is actually harming their body instead of improving it.

So, whether this is your challenge or whether you’re struggling to stop engaging in addictive behaviors like gambling, shopping, exercising, using the Internet, or watching porn… and it is causing harm to you or your loved ones, please note that therapy can help. We are here for you.

Our team of addiction specialists provides comprehensive services related to substance use for the entire family. We are dedicated to providing preventative services, treatment for individuals actively using, and continuity of care for those who have stepped down from a more intensive treatment program.

Good news…

Research shows that early intervention and family involvement yield the best long-term results for youth experimenting or struggling with substance use.

Our team of professionals recognizes this growing need within the community, and we want to use our training and expertise to provide relief in a comfortable private practice setting. These are the types of services we offer to help youth before they require a higher level of care:

  • Psychoeducation for parents and caregivers on substance use prevention
  • Psychoeducation for youth on the risks of long-term substance use
  • Individual psychotherapy treatment for substance use, chemical dependence, and process addictions (e.g., videogames, phone, gambling, shopping) in pre-teens and teens.
  • Specialized treatment for adolescents with co-occurring disorders, including anxiety, depression, bipolar I and II, ADHD, and PTSD.
  • Family therapy
  • Parent psychoeducation on the treatment and recovery process
  • Consultations with school faculty, primary physician, psychiatrists, and other professionals.

Here’s what we’ll do to treat your addiction…

Most people are familiar with 12-step programs and have heard about “rehab,” but many people might not know about the power of therapy in an outpatient setting. Therapy with an addictions specialist is an opportunity to tailor an approach to you, your story, and your unique goals. Addictions therapy can be done in conjunction with a 12-step program that you’re currently doing… or it can be a support to you as you maintain your recovery goals after rehab.

You will learn to identify triggers and understand risky behaviors and choices that may potentially lead to use.

You will also learn new adaptive ways to cope to stressful situations and craft a plan for how you will handle difficult life circumstances without the use of substances.

You will create a toolbox to support you on your way to achieving and maintaining sobriety or finding that balance you are craving for your life.

Recovery is a family matter.

Recovery is often a sensitive time for the parents, children, and partners of clients, as well as for the clients themselves. Since substance use affects everyone in the family, we believe it is important to provide comprehensive services to support the whole family.

Positive family involvement is an important piece to the recovery process.

  • Individual psychotherapy treatment for substance use, chemical dependence, and process addictions in teens and adults
  • Specialized treatment for individuals with co-occurring disorders, including anxiety, depression, bipolar I and II, ADHD, and PTSD.
  • Parent and spouse education on the treatment and recovery process
  • Family and Couples Interventions
  • Support and Recovery Groups
