Keep the knowledge. Lose the pain.
The memory doesn’t have to keep hurting you.
with Dr. Summer Sullivan
ART is a fast-acting, evidence-based therapy that helps your brain file painful memories differently — often in as few as one to five sessions. You don’t have to describe your trauma out loud, and you don’t have to spend years in weekly sessions to feel it lift. Dr. Sullivan is passionate about helping others through this dynamic, effective therapeutic modality, and believes ART can bring rapid and powerful relief to people of all ages.
A therapy built for how your brain actually heals.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy is a structured, evidence-based approach that pairs guided eye movements with imagery techniques to help your brain change how a distressing memory feels — without erasing what happened. The facts of the memory stay. The emotional charge attached to it doesn’t have to. ART is recognized as an evidence-based treatment by Division 12 of the American Psychological Association, and research on it continues to grow.
You stay in control the entire time. There’s no requirement to narrate your trauma in detail, no hypnosis, and no reliving the event the way you might expect from traditional exposure work.
Notice, safely
You bring the memory or feeling to mind just enough to work with it — you’re never asked to relive it in detail or say it out loud.
Track
Guided eye movements, similar to what happens naturally during REM sleep, help your brain process the memory differently in real time.
Replace
You voluntarily swap disturbing images for ones you choose — a technique called Voluntary Image Replacement — so the memory loses its grip.
ART isn’t a replacement for talk therapy. It’s a different tool entirely.
Talk Therapy
- Builds insight gradually, often over months or years
- Usually involves describing what happened in detail
- Relief tends to build slowly, session by session
- Works through the story with words
ART
- Follows a structured protocol, often complete in 1–5 sessions
- You never have to narrate your trauma out loud
- Many clients feel a shift by the end of a single session
- Works through the brain’s imagery, not conversation
ART can stand entirely on its own, or it can work alongside individual therapy you’re already doing with another provider — nothing about starting ART requires you to end that relationship.
Common reasons people come to ART
These are some of the most common reasons people come to ART sessions, but ART can be applied to any challenge in your life disrupting your peace and well-being.
Choose the amount of time that fits your goals.
Weekly Individual Sessions
A steady, once-a-week rhythm. A great fit if you want ART on a predictable schedule, or as an add-on to therapy you’re already doing elsewhere.
- 75-minute sessions, once weekly
- Most people complete ART in 1–5 sessions
- Works as a standalone therapy or alongside your current therapist
- In-person in Miami or virtual (PsyPact states)
ART Intensives
A planned three-hour appointment with time to prepare, process a focused concern, and settle before leaving. The package also includes a separate clinical planning session and personalized take-home tools.
- Complimentary 15-minute fit call and separate 50-minute planning session
- Three-hour intensive with ART, breaks as needed, and a guided meditation
- Session meditation recording, with your permission, and personalized coping handout
- In person only at our Pinecrest office; weekday and weekend appointments
Transparent fees, no surprises
Weekly ART sessions are private pay; on request, I can provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Intensive packages are self-pay and are not billed to insurance.
Weekly Individual Sessions
Most people work through ART in 1–5 total sessions.
ART Intensives
Includes a complimentary 15-minute fit call, the separate planning session, guided meditation recorded during your intensive with your permission, and a personalized coping handout. Before you reach out
Is ART the same as EMDR?
They’re related but not identical. Both use eye movements to help the brain process difficult memories, but ART follows a more structured, directive protocol and typically works in fewer sessions.
Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?
No. ART doesn’t require you to describe what happened out loud. You stay in control of what you bring to mind and how much you share.
Is this hypnosis?
No. You remain fully awake, alert, and in control throughout the entire session.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your goals and circumstances. An intensive provides more time in one appointment, but does not guarantee that one visit will resolve a concern. We will discuss a realistic plan together.
Can I do ART if I already have my own therapist?
Yes. ART can stand alone, or it can work as an adjunct to therapy you’re already doing with someone else — you don’t need to pause or end that relationship.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not bill insurance directly. For weekly ART sessions, I can provide a superbill on request for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Intensive packages are self-pay and are not billed to insurance.
Can I do sessions virtually?
Weekly individual ART sessions may be available virtually in Florida and eligible PsyPact states. ART Intensives are offered in person only at our Pinecrest office.
