However, there are a few exceptions to confidentiality. For example, in the case of child abuse, elder abuse, or significant risk of self-harm or harm to others, then we may be required by law to communicate to a third party.

When you meet with your therapist for the first time, he or she will go over confidentiality with you, so come prepared with any questions or concerns you might have.
