“Hope is not just a feeling. Hope is a path to construct a way forward.” – Julia Samuel

Do you ever feel your connections to others are lacking? That your relationships aren’t as deep or satisfying as you’d want?

Do you ever feel disconnected from yourself? Have you questioned, “Why do I feel this way?” “When did I lose myself?”

Connection makes life vibrant and meaningful, and yet it can often feel so out of reach.

These questions make you human, and being human can be really hard at times.

Maybe you’re having difficulty adjusting to life transitions, like starting college, switching careers, or relationships changes. Maybe you’re coping with loss, feeling weighed down by anxiety, or are simply just “floating” through life. It can be difficult to find words for what we feel, but we know when we’re not feeling quite right.

If you’re reading this, perhaps there is a part of you seeking clarity and healing. I’m here to help you find it.

Dr. Alexis Friedman

I believe the “magic” of therapy is the connection between therapist and client.

As your therapist…

My ultimate goal is to help you become the most fulfilled, satisfied, loving version of you. That might look like deepening your connections with others, laughing more, feeling more in touch with your mind and body, and holding more hope in your heart.

 How does therapy work?

Starting therapy for the first time or meeting with someone new can feel SO scary. I am deeply aware of this and will aim to make you feel as at ease and comfortable as I can from the very first session. That moment where you think, “Wow… This person totally sees me.” My first job as your therapist is to find our shared “humanness” and build a trusting, supportive, gently challenging, and safe relationship.

What does therapy look like?

Therapy with me is a collaborative process. You are the expert of your story, but I can offer a new perspective that promotes healing and self-understanding. As we work together reconstructing your story, you can see your relationships and life experiences in a new light and realize you are capable of more than you believed. In my therapy room, there is laughter, tears, joy, and sorrow. There are “aha” moments, and moments of confusion. There are goals reached and setbacks. Progress is not always linear, and we can often learn the most through the “zigzagging.”   Regardless of where you are on your therapy journey, I will be alongside you, guiding you and grounding you through the unknown.

About me…

Having a career in psychology has been a lifelong dream.

Even on the hard days, I feel so grateful to be trusted with individuals’ most vulnerable thoughts and feelings. I receive the “gift” of therapy as much as my clients do, as I am constantly learning and evolving with each new individual I work with. It is truly the most special job in the world!

As a South Florida native and double alumna of the University of Miami, much of my education, training, and professional experience has been working with individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. I have administered and supervised psychoeducational assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. I have also facilitated group therapy with trans-identified college students, as well as adults struggling with ADHD and executive functioning difficulties.

With a research background in social emotional development, I am comfortable working with individuals across the lifespan; however, my most significant clinical experience has been with emerging and early adults. Having taught undergraduate and graduate courses and trained in two university counseling centers, I have a specific appreciation of the challenges emerging teens and adults face, such as anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, academic difficulties, and low self-esteem. Importantly, in our work together I will tailor treatment based on your specific needs.

When I am not in the office… You can find me spending time with family and friends, going on a walk by the water, or pretending I’m not lactose intolerant (shh!) and trying every ice cream shop in town. Having a healthy work-life balance and practicing self-care is very important to me. As an extroverted introvert, I always try to have “me-time” (i.e., reality television binge time) while maintaining my connection with loved ones. I enjoy exercising, using gratitude practices, mindfulness, and the outdoors to find my inner calm when life gets hectic.
