Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

You’re here because you are seeking answers, a solution, someone to help you find your way..

You feel lonely or hopeless in your marriage or relationship. You’re struggling to make deep connections with your partner.

You are experiencing depression, anxiety, or feel helpless in your struggle to find fulfillment with your career choice or in your workplace.

You want more for yourself, for your family. You have hit a “parenting wall” and don’t know what else to do…

Cari Altman, Ms.Ed.

Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start. –Nido Qubein

We don’t always know exactly why we feel the way we do.

We tend to focus or notice more when something doesn’t feel right..like feeling depressed, anxious, irritable…and don’t always focus as much on deeper explanations to these symptoms such as examining our relationships and ourselves.

I will help you determine the underlying cause of your symptoms or circumstance. This will dictate the creation of an active treatment plan that can be implemented in your daily life.

Confidentiality with no judgement is paramount in order for you and/or your family to achieve your goals.

Whether you are sitting in my office alone or with other important people in your life; during this process you will feel supported, valued, validated and understood. Discussing the details of your private life can feel overwhelming and scary.

I will help you and your spouse, or you and your child,  work as a “team.”

Working with couples and families, we will identify core relationship issues and address them. I will give you tools that enable you to communicate while listening to each other and meeting your individual needs.

Together we will identify negative relationship patterns, explore the source of these patterns, remove barriers to resolving conflict, renew empathy and compassion in your relationship, improve communication, and establish new, healthy patterns.

The result will not only address your immediate concern, but it will lead to honest self-reflection, with the goal of stopping the cycle of repeating the same patterns in future relationships

Mountains with a sunset in the background

Self care is how you take your power back.

I will guide you to reflect on your current relationship or situation, leading to an “AHA!” moment. This can bring tears or laughter, and both are absolutely okay.

We will create a trusting, safe space where you will be able to share your thoughts and feelings without judgement..

I can also support you in your relationships with your children, your co-parent, or your child’s schools. As these connections are also crucial for mental health but can also be challenging at times. Let me help you bring harmony to these relationships. you do not have to figure out any of this alone.

Let the next chapter of your story start here.

About me…

It is my mission to impact the lives of others through dialogue and action.

My own past professional experience in comedy and performing arts led me to realize that my joy and success was in the analysis of characters and the relationships between them. As a result, I set out to further this exploration at the Center for Anxiety and Mood Disorders at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. I gained an understanding of behavior-oriented approaches to therapy, working in research studies relating to Anxiety, Depression and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I went on to receive my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from The University of Miami.

Life sometimes takes us down an unexpected path.

I continued to use my counseling skills as the Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs at a Miami private school for 10 wonderful years.

I incorporate into therapy my professional experience relating to parenting, knowledge of the school system, and understanding of the relationship between home and school.

When I am not in the office…..

I am spending time with my family, enjoying friends, reading, taking a day trip to the Keys, or hanging out with my dog, a rescued Chihuahua. I also enjoy biking, singing, and trying new restaurants!
